Austrian Power Grid AG relies on PLANFRED

… because clear structures and efficient processes in project management are crucial for project success.

With the Salzburg line project, Austrian Power Grid AG has set a milestone in Austria's energy infrastructure. With an investment of around one billion euros, the new line ensures a sustainable power supply and enables the more efficient integration of renewable energies into the grid. A key objective of the project was to eliminate the bottleneck in the Austrian transmission grid in order to transport surplus wind and PV energy from the east of the country to the pumped storage power plants in the west.

PLANFRED: Efficiency for complex infrastructure projects

“The PLANFRED project platform plays a central role in the execution phase of the Salzburg Line. APG uses PLANFRED for the entire plan run, especially for the plan review run and plan revisions with all parties involved - from planners to construction supervisors and contractors. PLANFRED has proven to be a very efficient tool thanks to its user-friendly design. The intuitive user interface makes it very easy for those involved to get started and the platform is quickly accepted,” says Franz Steinacher, Head of Department at APG.

The Salzburg line impressively demonstrates how digital tools can accelerate and simplify the implementation of complex infrastructure projects.

Project data:

  • approx. 1 billion euros investment volume

  • 128 km of new lines (including 114 km of 380 kV lines and 14 km of 220 kV lines)

  • 449 new electricity pylons (of which 404 380 kV and 45 220 kV)

  • 678 dismantled pylons (that is 193 km of dismantled 220/110 kV lines)

  • 6 transformer stations (of which 2 new constructions and 4 conversions/adaptations)

  • 36 municipalities

  • 6.7 km of 110 kV cabling

  • 38 km of overhead lines (110 kV lines)
